Migrant Services

The Migrant Education Program (MEP) is a federally funded initiative that provides educational support and services to Migrant children. The program aims to help Migrant students overcome the challenges of frequent moves, ensuring that they receive the same educational opportunities and resources as other students.

English Learner Services

An English learner (EL) is a student who is still learning English and has a first language other than English or in addition to English.

ELs may need support to become proficient in English and participate in the classroom, school, and community.

BESD English Learner Program

An English Language Learner (ELL) program supports students who are not yet fluent in English, helping them learn the language quickly and effectively.

These programs are designed to assist students in participating in social activities, communicating with teachers and peers, performing well in higher education, and excelling academically.

  • How are students identified as English Learners (ELs) ?

    • Parent/Guardian completes a Home Language Survey upon initial enrollment in a CA school

    • If primary language is not English, the Initial ELPAC will be administered (Within 30 calendar days of Initial enrollment)

    • Assessment results will identify student as and an English Learner (EL) or Initial Fluent English Proficient (IFEP)

  • EL Program Placement Options: Structured English Immersion, Dual Language Immersion or Newcomer Support Program (3rd-8th)
